Are Mobile Phones Going To Replace Mp3 Players?
Over the years our gadgets have progressively become smaller and smaller and that is going to keep happening too. If you look at something like an iPod then in the last ten years it has shrunk down and down in size until the new ones are wafer thin yet offer massive amount of storage, color screens, games and even access to videos.
The future lies with devices that can do everything we need though, it will seem antiquated to have a device to take pictures and another to listen to music on etc. We are already starting to see that with the new smart phones which can take quality pictures and play music while doing everything a phone can normally do and allow you seamless access to the internet. These gadgets can’t keep getting smaller indefinitely though, I mean what good is a tiny phone? The screen would be too small to be useful (especially when browsing the web) and all the buttons would be too small to use properly, so manufacturers have to concentrate now on making them lighter, more durable and then continuing to pack new features in.
Another area that we will see improvements in is how much you can customize your phone. People want their phone to stand out from the crowd, but at the moment the only way to do that is to buy a different case, hopefully soon we will be able to customize the exterior of the phone without buying anything else. Certainly with the new AMOLED technology then they could coat all of the exterior of the phone in a paper thin screen which can then display all sorts of designs you download off the internet, allowing us all to customize our phones even more. With that kind of technology it would then be easy to match your phone to your outfit and if you have other brightly colored gadgets on you like pink headphones (visit PinkHeadphones.org for a great selection) then they can match them too.
Will they ever replace our desktop computers though? I am pretty sure that we will never get to the point where a phone becomes our main computer of the house, they are just too clumsy to use when you are at home, they are fine when you are travelling but not when you are home and could use a keyboard. Also they will never be as powerful as a larger desktop computer so gamers etc would never make the switch. However I do think that tablets could start to replace a lot of the traditional computers, they offer a powerful and easy to use computer without all the fuss and clutter that comes with a normal machine. The only major drawback right now is that to use the iPad you actually need a computer to sync it with to get the most out of it, but hopefully in the future that won’t be the case and they will be usable just by themselves.
There are bound to be a lot of amazing new features and gadgets released in the next few years, and one thing I am particularly looking forward to is the release of 4G access. It is debatable yet whether it will live up to the hype, but it is supposed to give us broadband speed internet on our phones, which will really change how we use them. Suddenly we would be able to stream movies straight to our phones and so much more, which would certainly make our morning commute more fun!
